Interview with Miss Bettie B Goode

In 2015 Bettie came runner up in the Pinup Doll Victoria competition that was held as part of the Ballarat Beat Pinup competition. From there she went on to win the title of Pinup Doll Australia and has lead to her next adventure competing in the Miss Pinup International competition that takes place tomorrow in London! This little pocket rocket travelled all the way from Bendigo to London to compete and our thoughts and hearts are with her. I was very excited to be able to interview her about how she got into Pinup and performing before she headed overseas to wow international audiences. And to be able to share with you some photos from her recent shoot with Rebecca Gray - wow!

Sew City – Sew Country! Project 1: Pinterest Challenge

Let me introduce you to the first edition of a new monthly project I am undertaking with my lovely friend Stacey from The Little Taylor. A little while ago Stace was telling me about Sew Weekly, where the authors and anyone who wants to join in make a garment each week according to their chosen theme. We both loved this idea, but for Stacey, working and having her own projects meant that a project a week was a little too much and for me, well, I ended up making only 4 garments last year thanks to an incredibly crappy health run, so we settled on one project a month. Stacey and I have worked together for photo shoots, catwalk shows and market stalls for a number of years now but the distance between our living locations can make it difficult: I am in the heart of Melbourne and she is in the country town Shepparton, 190km away. And thus Sew City - Sew Country was born! I hope you join us for the ride!

Camperdown Cruise 2015 – with a little help from my friends!

I have a confession to make... I have serious FOMO (fear of missing out). It can be all-consuming and anxiety-inducing. My dog has it too, although I like to think I manage mine better than he does 😉 The fact that my calendar seems to be quiet for a while and then have 3 things on the same time that I want to go to, like last weekend certainly doesn't help! I hear this phenomenon isn't exclusive to the chronically ill but sometimes I do think the calendar Gods are against me! Then the added element of having to miss out and cancel on a lot of things due to fatigue or not being able to get there and back under my own steam really doesn't help the situation.

Five ways to achieve fabulous Pinup Hair

For years I admired beautiful hairstyles that I never thought I could achieve. The soft waves and curls of Marilyn Monroe's blonde locks, Jane Russell's fabulous full sideswept look and Bettie Grable's height-enhancing poodle style were styles that I dearly loved but my absolute favourites were the perfect Victory rolls and inventive up-do's of the 1940s. They made me envious and a bit sad about my lack of skill as every time I tried to do something interesting my stubborn, heavy, thick and wavy hair would fall out of the style within an hour.

Ten tips to creating pinup perfect skirts

I have been visiting the world of skirts a lot since I posted about making my Graceful in the Garden skirt and there’s a good reason for this; skirts are awesome! There are so many types of skirts to choose from that were popular in the 1940s and 50s if you are looking to add a bit of vintage flair to your wardrobe
